The 4 elements of brewing

Our beer brewing process is the result of hundreds of years of expertise and perfection. The process effectively combines four key, simple ingredients; barley, water, yeast and hops. The balance and proportions of these ingredients dictate the desired flavour of the beer - ensuring they appeal to a wide variety of palates.

Barley

Beer owes a lot to Barley. Malt it and kiln it at varied temperatures and times, and you get different styles of malt that help give every beer its distinct colour, flavour and aroma.

Water

Water is the main ingredient of beer. Different types of water produce different styles of beer. Ales traditionally use water with high mineral content, whereas softer waters are used in the brewing of pilsner style lagers.

Hops

Different varieties of hops are selected to introduce a world of subtle aromas, as well as the right level of bitterness to beer. Varieties like Goldings are selected for their aromatic properties, Eroica or Target hops are used for bitterness.

Yeast

This microscopic ingredient has beer drinkers' interests at heart. Not just because yeast converts sugars into alcohol but because it creates the many flavours that characterise the style of each beer. Yeast grows and multiplies at the fermentation stage relseasing the carbon dioxide that makes beer sparkle.
